We are looking for students who would like to do their master/bachelor thesis or a semester project. Below is the list of open topics.


  • Side-Channel Attacks and Countermeasures

Side channel attacks are a powerful practical technique of breaking ciphers. They exploit physical leakage of a device that implements a cryptographic algorithm. The affected devices range from smart cards to desktop machines, since all of them may leak sensitive information through power consumption, electromagnetic radiation or timing of operations. The tasks within this topic are twofold: a) to develop and implement the new attacks on various hardware; b) to develop efifcient and secure countermeasures and implement them in practice.

  • Efficient Code Obfuscator

Code obfuscation is an important research area, which studies our ability to detect similarities between different computer programs and on the other hand our ability to hide such similarity or functionality of a given program. Important applications are for the areas of white-box cryptography, malware classification and reverse-engineering, as well as intellectual property rights for software.

The goal of this project is to produce a code-obfuscation tool that defeats popular graph-based static analysis tools and emulators, while still having reasonable impact on the performance of the underlying program.

Foreign students may look for financial support from Erasmus Mundus programme.
